National
National Dancing, or more commonly, Folk Dancing has been created spontaneously by a people to express the characteristics of their temperament and environment. In some countries the dances are part of community life; in others, they have been expertly re-created.
The term, Folk Dance, was coined in the 18th Century to mark the difference between the dances of the people and those of the higher social classes. The dances would be passed from one generation to the next without any fixed form, simply as an idea and a set of rules, undergoing many changes.

The National Dance Faculty of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing has worked to create and develop an interest in Folk Dance. Students are given the opportunity to enjoy not only the dances of other countries, but also learn about nations, their customs, their music and their costumes. It is a form of dance with appeals to adults and children alike, providing the opportunity to dance together in a social way whilst gaining a greater insight into the traditions of people throughout the world.
